Rules and Guidelines for selecting company names



Looking ahead to start a business in the booming market of Hong Kong, what s the name that you have selected? The first thing to decide when you are up to an HK company formation is its name. The identity of any company starts with the name after which it is going to be recognized in the current market sector. Unless the name is registered and verified, Hong Kong companyincorporation is not plausible.

To make sure that your naming process doesn’t get awry and you are able to incorporate HK Company easily, here are the actual rules and guidelines you need to follow in order to select the right company name for your business:

·         A company name can be an English name, Chinese name, English and Chinese name. Make sure that the name is not a combination of English words/letters and Chinese characters.

·        If the name is in English, it must end with the word limited. If it is in Chinese, it must end with the characters 有限公司”.
 
·         In case you are going for a Chinese name, it is supposed to contain some traditional Chinese characters mentioned in the Kang Xi or CI Hai dictionary. You can also find it in the ISO 10646 international coding standards. 

·         Note that you have to first check the availability of the company name before starting to use them for the limited company formation. For this, you can go for a company registry search. 

·         Also note that there are certain words that are not allowed to be used for naming companies in Hong Kong. To learn which words come under the category, follow the “Company Names Guidelines” present in the Companies Registry.
